Tenioha - Game Review

Tenioha is a very well done visual novel that is heavy on both story and sex. This is one of those games that doesn't have to be a game at all, simply put the story on automatic and sit back and enjoy. When first looking through the introductory findings of this game I was excited to see so many characters and wanted to immediately get into who they are and what their story was. Thankfully I was not let down by the presentation of these elements. So let's get right into it....

Story:

Being a visual novel this game certainly is story heavy. Now the bad side to being story heavy for some games is that the story either sucks or is not what the reader was looking for. Tenioha thankfully is amazing in it's presentation. It does a great job of serving up detailed background info on it;s main characters Ami, Haruki, Nanase, Yoshio, Matsuri, and the main player(you) Hiro. By the time you even make your first choice in the game you have already been presented with most of the characters backgrounds. Tenioha takes place in a Japanese school and mostly follows the events of a school club who's membership is made up of the main cast. The main character Hiro is a loner who lives alone in his brother apartment. He is the kind of guy that cannot be bothered to do much of anything and tries to avoid the "pains" of normal social interactions. By the end of the game you will have gotten over those fears and into some pussy, the question is who's pussy?

Writing:

With a visual novel such as this where the writing makes or breaks the entire experience this game succeeds masterfully. The writing is very well done and does a great job of bringing out each characters individual quarks and personalities. All of the dialogue is accompanied by voice overs (except for Hiro). There is a lot of writing here as well making this seem like a true novel and not just a quick attempt as story telling. Even though the dialogue is voiced (in Japanese) even if I spoke Japanese I would still read along because of just how exquisite the writing is. I must congratulate whoever handled the translation from Japanese to English for doing a stellar job.

Art And Graphics:

This is not a game where movement and full blow animations are expected. It relies heavily on still drawings with shifting expressions to make it work. Some games using this method fall short due to laziness and lack of creativity but this is not one of them. Even though The entire game is not even animated It never felt that way and that is because of the use of shifting expressions on faces and transitioning the positions of the images at the right moments. The Japanese style hentai here is drawn beautifully. The art is breathtaking and colorful. Everything from the character models to the backgrounds are done very well with lots of detail. This is not just your average Hentai this is top of the line worth the money kind of stuff.

Sound:

The sound is great. Both the music and voice overs are done very well and I have no complaints. The default settings to me felt like the music was way too loud but luckily the game features robust settings so you can change the levels of specific sound. The music is both soothing and heart pumping when it was appropriate and seemed to be high quality because I never felt like I was being ear raped. The voice overs were superb and of the highest quality. I must congratulate the actors here as they did an incredible job of bringing out the nuances of each characters individual personalities. There was one off putting thing however and this is going to sound silly but it just put me off. During any scene where anal penetration is involved there is a disgusting sound of fart that happens which made me want to gag every time anal happened. This sound effect is not needed and just stupid. Conclusion: The story of Hiro navigating the aspects of school for a full year and the quest of finding love with 3 potential heroines is enthralling and engaging. I loved every second of it. The nature of my job as a reviewer required me to play this game several times within the course of 24 hours and I still feel like I could play it again sometime in the future when I can take my time. That shows you how good it is. It has everything you could want from a great story, to stellar voice acting, and deliciously lewd sex scenes. Let me emphasize, there are TONS of sex scenes. Fifty sex scenes to be precise. So sit down and relax and get ready for a hot and fulfilling novel in Tenioha.
